Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY)has a short memory and has forgotten how during then President Barack Obama’s first term he said that he wasn’t going to do anything to help him.
Top Republicans, which included now Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) and now House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), had a meeting, plotting out how they were going to sabotage Barack Obama’s presidency.
Their rule was to obstruct by doing nothing. Then Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell made clear that his job was to make sure that Barack Obama was “a one-term president.”
“The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president,” is what POLITICO quoted McConnell as saying to the National Journal.
Mind you, McConnell hasn’t said that’s fake news. Therefore, the only conclusion to come to is that his goal was to make then President Barack Obama “a one-term president.”
Now that the shoe is on the other foot and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) have decided to not help President Donald Trump on tax reform, Mitch McConnell and his crew are throwing shade.
McConnell stood at the podium today and told reporters, “I never refused to go to a meeting that President Obama called.”
But as a person can see from McConnell's past comment and actions that is far from the case.
Former White House Senior Adviser Dan Pfeiffer tweeted out that Mitch McConnell would fake like he had something to do in order to avoid having to meet with then President Obama.
And LA Times editor Jackie Calmes backed up Pfeiffer’s claim with her tweet, linking to a HuffPost article, about how Mitch McConnell “skipped” out on a meeting with Barack Obama in order to go to a Federalist Society dinner to get help in his (McConnell) efforts to repeal Obamacare.
All of this is important because it is increasingly looking as if Trump has let his tweet cost him more than his presidency can afford.
Trump took to the Twitter today to diss Schumer and Pelosi on the same day they were scheduled to meet with him about tax reform and keeping the government open.
Here is what Trump tweeted, “Meeting with “Chuck and Nancy” today about keeping government open and working. Problem is they want illegal immigrants flooding into our Country unchecked, are weak on Crime and want to substantially RAISE Taxes. I don’t see a deal.”
He’s right. After that tweet, he won’t “see a deal.” Instead of getting them at least to the table, Trump tweet caused them to not even go to the house where the table is located.
Schumer and Pelosi saw that tweet and said, “deuces.” But unlike McConnell, they did say they would work with Trump on things they could work with him on.
In fact, Trump went to them after the Republicans failed to get a comprehensive immigration bill passed and said he wanted to work with the Democrats.
But now, Trump has tweeted that the Democrats’ immigration plan, which we all knew was more liberal than the Republicans, won’t work.
And a reasonable person must ask, “Why would he or she work with someone who comes to them for help on an issue and then knock them for the help he is coming to them for?”
It makes absolutely no sense. So yeah, Schumer and Pelosi are right to tell Trump good riddance. McConnell, on the other hand, needs to stop praising himself like he’s the second coming.
Unlike Schumer and Pelosi, McConnell did everything he could to make sure Obama had nothing but bad news.

And now McConnell, who’s become Trump’s number one “mitch,” is complaining about Schumer and Pelosi not going to a photo-op after Trump tweeted our country into a possible government shutdown.
But hey, at least Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi had a good reason not to meet with this president; which is what I can’t say about Mitch McConnell when Barack Obama was president.
